Oh don't think I'd fancy walking along the canal morning - or night Smiff! Used to be so easy when Wolsey St/Coley St. existed - pre IDR of course! 
On foot. I'm too scared to leave my bike at the station. My route is up Berkeley Ave, down the canal to Bridge St, through St Mary's churchyard, by John lewis, then straight up Queen Vic St and Station Rd. When I first started walking to work a few years ago it took 16 mins just to get to the Yell office by the Hexagon lol 
I really must leave a bit earlier for the train in the morning. Mind you, I beat my record today, 16 mins to get from Boston Ave to the seat of the 8:42 to London Waterloo on platform 4a. I was a bit hot and sweaty though!

I am afraid that you just have to hack your way through all the roots KC, and then of course there remains the tap root which generally goes straight down, that is the piggy one. The best idea, although too late for you I suspect, is to leave about 6ft or tree standing and then pull the whole thing over.
KC - it's all those Ozzies play tu-of-war with it - hoped you tugged it hard enough so they all fell over!

Funny thing about yesterday's storm - it hammered it down at TVP, it was bone dry at Winnersh, then around jc11 was awful again!
Damp it may be, but the rain over the last 24 hours has done my runners a world of good. More please . . .
The thunder flashed, the lightening roared and all the world was shaking. The little pig curled up his tail and ran to save his bacon . Good job Marie is out of town or she would have been in the cupboard under the stairs!
