Interactive parking map?

UPDATE: Let's give this a go:

WHOOHOO! Got it working - I've dropped a couple of lines and markers, click on a line or pin to see the time allowed at that space - what I need you to do is experiment - just add a space, pick and icon and describe it. Right now, it's "open" so anyone can mess with it. However, this could be abused, so I plan on maybe making it "invited collaborators only" (ie: all I need is an email address).

What do you think?

CLICK HERE TO ADD TO THE MAP

It seems that lots of other places have nice helpful maps to show you where to park.
A bit like this - http://www.mkweb.co.uk/parkingmap/home.asp
And possible add in the "real time availability" function from something like this:
http://parkingspacenow.smgov.net/
Only, I was thinking of using Google Maps so it didn't suck. And also allowing people to mark their own places, and then get people to vote on that space, so someone drawing a line along Oxford Road, and marking it 30 mins free would appear, but as "unverified". Once at least two people had verified that, it would show as "confirmed".
A bit like a sort of "wikiparking" idea - except I don't have the skills yet, but if it was requested, I suppose I could go and have a learn!

Unless this kind of thing exists for Reading already and I just don't know about it?

Sounds a good idea!!

Particularly to draw attention to possible drawbacks of parking there.

Many of us I'm sure, like me, know of some not so obvious places, that could be useful on occasions.........

another good link I think would be alternative routes to get out of the town centre - particularly for newbies to the town - rather than slavishly following the gas-guzzling /traffic jammed routes that are the norm!

Hill's Meadow car park (George Street) : park anywhere on the un-tarmacked area of the car park and the CEOs can't do anything! You have to be in a bay area to get ticketted! OK if you don't mind a bit of a walk into town.

I've just been looking at other layers in Google Maps around Reading - not only is the resolution so high now that I can read the labels on the parking spots (which helps!) but there are loads of new layers - pictures, video, people, terrain, shops etc.
Take a look - then turn on the extra layers in the sidebar.

Now, what I'm waiting for is the Google Streetview and 3D buildings for Reading. Anyone good with Sketchup going to add our first?! :)

I've posted this elsewhere, but I think it's so cool I'll post it here too!

I see a few Reading buildings are starting to appear in Sketchup including Madejski Stadium.

Here's my collection of other people's work - you can import these buildings into Sketchup or Google Earth

Right! It's starting to take off now - spurred on by 110 clicks and some points added by Dave N and Russ (whoever they are - thank you!) I've added a load more points and tried to make the map better.

PLEASE just take a moment to add even just a couple of points! Thanks.
